Kenwood Carriage House

This modest house in Minneapolis’ Kenwood neighborhood serves as a guest house to the adjacent property, giving the homeowners plenty of entertainment and sleeping space for out-of-town guests. Large sliding doors connect the main floor to the covered porch, allowing guests to watch games of lacrosse, soccer or bocce ball being played on the expansive lawn. Outdoor living spaces are shared seamlessly with the adjacent property; both have access to the covered dining area, open courtyard and fire pit. While the simple, traditional form of the exterior complements the adjacent house, the guest house contains its own fresh, modern expression—open shelves hang above stainless kitchen cabinets, a sleek curtain track allows for bedroom privacy, and a barn door mirror slides in and out of view in the upstairs guest bathroom.
